The Tottenham club decided to fire coach Mauricio Pochettino after a miserable start this season. According to British media sources, “Special person” Jose Mourinho is said to be ready to replace the Argentinian military leader.
The decision to fire was issued by the Tottenham club management on November 19 after Spurs experienced a poor start to the Premier League this season. Currently, after 12 rounds, Pochettino’s army is ranked 14th in the rankings (3 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses), eliminated from the League Cup (Carabao Cup) in September by Colchester United – the team is playing in the fourth division.
Pochettino is the leader who has left the most marks in the history of Spurs since arriving from Southampton in 2014 despite not winning a trophy in 5 and a half years leading the London team.
The biggest success of the 47-year-old Argentine ruling came from the season before Tottenham reached the final of Europe’s most prestigious tournament (Champions League) for the first time but lost to Liverpool 0-2. Besides, during his time in London, Pochettino helped Tottenham won the Champions League four times.
However, Spurs have started a serious decline this season in the Premier League and are now 11 points behind City’s fourth team and are far behind by leaders Liverpool with a gap of 20 points. In the Champions League, Spurs experienced an embarrassing 2-7 home defeat to Bayern Munich in Group B in September. Despite revival to rise to 2nd place and rekindle the body was in the round of 16, but the Tottenham leadership could not keep the patience.
“We had to be reluctant to make this change. Unfortunately, domestic results at the end of last season and the beginning of this season are extremely disappointing. That makes the board must make a difficult decision this time. We have had memorable moments with Mauricio and his coaching team but the team has to do so for the best benefit”, said Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy.
In fact, Pochettino has received admiration not only from Tottenham when the team has achieved certain success despite a tight budget in the context of the club having to build a new stadium at a cost of over 1 billion pounds. Pochettino’s success comes from the youth growing up from the Spurs training room like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.
Pochettino’s departure is foreseen after disagreements with the team leader. After 18 months of not signing a player, Levy finally relaxed his financial position for Tottenham to buy Tanguy Ndombele for a club-record £63 million in July and added Jacani lo Celso (borrowed) and Ryan Sessegnon during the summer transfer window last. However, injuries prevented the trio from being able to contribute to the team, while Pochettino had a headache about Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are no longer in the mood to devote themselves to wanting to leave.
Mourinho is currently expected to take over Tottenham. According to Sky Sports, the Spurs leadership is negotiating with the famous Portuguese leader. Mourinho is currently hungry to return to the hot seat after being sacked 11 months ago by Manchester United.
